I’m a Product Management Director with 19 years experience in marketing and engineering. 5 things I’m best known for: driving to results, leading teams of high-caliber people, an attention to detail, creating a great user experience, and partnering well with engineering. I also excel at evangelizing products, and finding just the right words to do so.

Update for March 2009: I’m currently looking for a new opportunity—specifically, for a leadership role in product management (or product marketing) at a great company. If you have any good leads, please contact me at claire dot giordano at gmail dot com.

In the past, I served as Director of Product Management and User Experience at A9.com, an Amazon.com subsidiary, managing an online advertising service. Prior to my 2 year tenure at Amazon, I was at Sun Microsystems for 16 years, most recently as the Group Marketing Manager for OpenSolaris, where I was responsible for all outbound and community marketing efforts. Before marketing OpenSolaris, I directed the engineering effort to open source the Solaris operating system, starting at inception.

In 2008, for the first time in my 19 year career, I took time off—to work on a book I’d always wanted to write. A mystery novel. I have a draft, and it’s going to gather dust for a while. I’m calling it my “trunk novel.”

I have a B.S. in Applied Math/Computer Science from Brown University.

And now for the personal stuff: I was born in Taiwan, raised in New England, love to ski in the Sierras, am a children’s soccer referee, and wish I were sailing in the Dodecanese. I love to write, and love to read. Current fave authors: David Housewright, William G. Tapply, Lisa Lutz, and Ridley Pearson. I’m also a big fan of Stephen King’s book, On Writing.
